You win some, you lose some, you rise then you fall, Hedge your bets, take a chance, I think IÍve seen them all. IÍve won when IÍve been losing, then let the prize slip from my grasp, IÍd even come in first sometimes, but more often finish last. My life had been a gamble, as a leaf falls from a tree, A whirlwind of chance, a violent storm, raging all round me. IÍd strain my eyes against the gloom, then closed them to hide away, Peace then fear, calm with toil, would there ever be a stay? The situations changed now, though life still rages on, I came across a passage out, a promise of the battle won. A constant in an uncertain world, a truth that will not move, No longer just a hit or miss, I know I'll never lose. Now I stand upon the word of God, His promises He'll keep, A sure foundation, a solid rock, somewhere to plant my feet. So where life was once uncertain, with little chance of reward, I now live steadfast, unmoveable, abounding in the work of my Lord. Martin Gladdish - January 2002 |
